Finding out the sex and baby names

After much consideration, Jonas and I decided to NOT find out the sex of the baby until the baby is born. Although it is very tempting to have the option to find out early, we want it to be a double surprise on delivery day. Obviously, it does not matter if we have a boy or a girl. We are thrilled with either one! But we love the added anticipation that it will be. I think a few people we know will be a wee disappointed that we are not finding out earlier, as the suspense already seems to be killing them. But if we can wait, they can wait too :) Privately, Jonas and I have a very strong instinct of what we think the baby will be. Of course, we could be totally wrong and that will be fine too. But from the very beginning, we both seemed to have the exact same feeling and we privately refer to our baby as this gender (again, knowing full well that we could be wrong and if we are wrong, then it will be a REAL surprise!) I won't spill the beans on what we think it is, but if we are right, I will let you know.

We have also begun the process of trying out some names. This has not been an easy task at all. It appears that we have some different opinions on names, particularly with girl names, so a lot of them have been discarded right away. Boy names don't seem to be as difficult, but the girl names seem to be a challenge. But we do have a few picked out right now, and are letting it marinade for a while to see if the name sticks. Of course, I know that you can have all these baby names picked out, but you actually have to SEE the baby to know if the name even suits them!

It's been such a crazy, crazy busy time in both of our lives lately, that I worry about our baby being too restless in my tummy with all this activity going on. But several times a day, I give my belly a rub and massage to relax him/her. Jonas and I have also taken to talking to the baby more frequently everyday as well, as we are absolutely convinced that he/she can hear us. If anything, we want it to feel our undying love, and for it to feel as protected and safe as possible. We love you sooooo much beautiful baby of ours! Never doubt how wanted and loved you were from the absolute very beginning!

  1. Dear Wendy,
Baby names...for both Jonas and Cara, we went through the whole book "Name Your Baby". We thought our babies were unique, so we picked out Jonas (Hebrew: A man so called because he was peace loving and serene)and Cara (Italian: Dear, beloved one), Hebrew and Italian, not the most frequent names picked by Chinese parents. I hope that Jonas and Cara feel good about their names. Maybe Jonas wants to think about how his name Jonas has impacted him as a child, a teenager, an adult, as Jonas is not a common name like Peter, or Mike. People keep calling Cara Clara. So Cara may have her own idea of how she likes her name.
Right, whether it is a boy or girl, we would love him/her so so much, our first grandchild!
    Love,
    Mom.

  2. So exciting! We will adore waiting for this beautiful surprise right along with you. So far, I am really happy with our decision to wait until the birth. It is fun to speculate and hear everybody's guesses. I can't wait to know what each of us is having! xoxoxo

  3. Again, I already know the gender so no disappointment here :). In all seriousness though, I can remember that moment of exhiliration waiting to meet my little one during labour. I can imagine it will be that much more exciting when you find out the sex!
