Too much weight

So I have mixed feelings after my monthly routine visit with the OB, and it all has to do with my weight! Apparently, I have put on quite a bit of weight from my last visit. This really surprised me, because it didn't seem like I had, but the scale doesn't lie. To date, I have gained 14 lbs and am just halfway through my pregnancy. I gained 8 lbs from my last visit, which was only four weeks ago. Yes, shocking and even more shocking that I decided to share the news. I just can't understand where this weight came from??? My appetite has resumed to what it was pre-pregnancy, but I definitely have not felt like I was overeating. However, if you look at my previous blog entry, I'm sure it seems like I am overeating and overindulging. Anyways, it is not good when even your doctor suggests that it may be a good idea to cut back on some of my sweet cravings. So now, I feel like I have to be even more mindful of what I eat, and I think part of the problem is that I am not active enough. I used to go dragon boating twice a week, gym workouts at least 2-3 times a week, and then recreational activities such as hikes, walking or bike riding other days. These days, I try to walk or go to the gym at least 2-3 days a week for a minimum of half an hour. I am going to try to squeeze in another day if I can.

Ironically, Jonas and I have plans to go to dinner with friends this weekend, as well as to check out the Eat! Vancouver food expo at the Convention Center. This expo will feature a bunch of culinary delights that we get to sample, so I must try to restrain myself somewhat. At least the baby is healthy, and that is what matters most.

  1. Wow - I wonder what your doctor would've told me!!! Until you've gained over the maximum amount of weight (which I did :), I don't think you should worry about it. What my doctor told me when I asked him if I was gaining too much is: "the only concern is the amount of work you have to put in to lose it after". As he smiled :)

  2. Ha ha - that's a good one "the only concern is the amount of work you have to put in to lose it after".

Wendy, I'm no Dr but I think you look great and not too big at all! But if you ever want to hike or walk or get to the gym together (just to feel good) I'm always up for it :) xo
