A Preview Of Things To Come

Griffin has barely passed the four month mark, and we have already had several glimpses of things to come in our future. All of a sudden, we have this active little baby that is squirmy, verbal and tries desperately to be mobile. If we are at home, our days are now filled with trying to come up with creative ways to keep little Griffin entertained. This is not an easy task as his attention span is short, and is only interested in things for about 10 minutes. These are some of the things we have tried to do for him: we have introduced new toys to him, make sounds and faces, dance in front of him, exercise for him, sing to him, roll around on the floor, carried him in a variety of different positions, hung mobiles off of chairs (just to mix things up, instead of having them hang from his crib), place him on his tummy on the couch, placed him in his bumbo, placed him in his swinging chair, shown him pictures of Mommy and Daddy, shown him pictures of himself, read him some books......and on and on. Jonas is a genius at coming up with different sitting positions for him, but I must admit, my act is starting to get old.

Not only is he wanting to explore new things, but he is a MAJOR babbler. He is very intent on chatting to us everyday, and at every opportunity that he can get. I think he is fascinated by this discovery, and last night, I was kept awake by his constant chatting at 2 am. After his 2 am feeding, I put him down in his crib and heard him chatting happily away to himself. This was followed by more pushups (to try to get himself to roll over) before he finally put himself to sleep an hour later. I am taking this as a sign that perhaps he needs to be in his own room VERY SOON, because Mama needs her sleep!

Besides the short attention span and sudden interest in being expressive, Griffin is trying so hard to be mobile. He is so determined to roll over, or crawl it seems. He is always pushing his bum up in the air and rocks on his knees. I think at this point, he would settle for either. He is suddenly squirmy, and all of this keeps me thinking, if he is like this now, what is he going to be like when he starts to crawl???
